Yesterday I sat down to write a post about parenting that had been on my heart for a while. I will share that post soon but the process of writing it got me thinking about something we need to know and walk in as women. Before any of God’s commands, rules or examples make sense to us we desperately need to know how much He loves us!
If we don’t understand that God is love and that ALL of His actions can only be filtered through love {because He never changes} then following His commands can be challenging. Perfect love casts out all fear and He is that perfect love {1 John 4:18}. He casts out our fear. When we rest in Him, in His perfect love, He casts out our fear.
Why am I talking about fear and love? Because I think some times we read God’s Word and see all of these commands and things we should be doing and we become fearful. We fear either because we cannot overcome these things on our own or because we don’t really believe that if we follow these instructions that it is in our best interest. I mean forgive someone who has hurt you badly? Really? How about I just hold on to that pain because I don’t trust that God is going to take care of it or take care of justice for me? But He will. He is love. He is just. He can be nothing less than all of His character. He never changes. He never fails.
When we understand these things we can read His Word, His commands and instructions, and willingly submit to them. Our hearts easily yield when we know that our Daddy God loves us and uses His unending wisdom to show us the way to have the most incredible life possible. There is so much freedom in trusting His love.
I long to live a meaningful life of beauty and passion. The only way to really do that is to know God’s love for me and to follow His commands because He has cast out all of my fear. It is empowering to trust God and take Him at His Word because I know He loves me. Forever. And Always.
We can never get enough of His love. I could write about it every day for the rest of my life and still wouldn’t get to the end of it. We don’t learn it and move on. No, we need to live in it. We need to be reminded of it daily. We need to ask for eyes to see it. We need to have ears that listen for it. We need to have knees that bend and a body that gets still to wait for it.
Won’t you join me today in asking God for a fresh revelation of His love for us? Ask Him to show you how He sees you today. Maybe even ask Him what His favorite thing about you is? Then open your heart a little wider and accept that He will never steer you wrong. You can trust all of His instructions now and always.
