Welcome to Day 3 in our 31 Day series on A Mom’s Guide to Getting it All Done. In case you missed yesterday’s post you may want to go and read it first. Or just jump in right here with us today.
Today I want to give you a bit of homework. It will take some thought but I promise there is a very good reason for it and I think it will help you a lot in the long run.
Get out a sheet of paper or you can use this page I made (download it here). In the first column you are going to write down all of the things that are on your plate and that you are responsible for in life. Make it detailed. Your list should include being a mom, a wife (if you’re married), friend, all of your home responsibilities, business responsibilities, ministry responsibilities, laundry, paying bills, carpooling, meal planning, etc… Think through what you do and write it down in the first column.
In the second column sort out all of the things that only you can do from all that you wrote down in the first column. For example, only you can be the mom to your children. Only you can be your husband’s wife. Only you can do the things God has called you to do. But the laundry? That might go in the third column, which is all the things that you could delegate or have someone else do. Now don’t take this too seriously. Don’t keep something like the laundry on your plate in your list because you don’t know of anyone to do it for you or you cannot afford to hire someone to do it. Just make the list as if it was all about to come true and you were planning our your perfect responsibility and priority list.
Trust me. There is a reason for this and it will be a helpful tool for us going forward. I’ll come back to this list and explain more why we are doing this in a few days. For now just go make your list! I promise you’ll be glad you did.
