The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. Proverbs 21:5
Planning can be difficult for me. I like to live in the moment. But God’s Word says in so many ways that planning is wise and that makes me think that I should put effort into it.
I have taken some steps to make sure that I plan ahead and set goals. These are the things I would encourage you to do no matter what your personality or strengths are.
Take a Sabbatical
My husband and I started taking Sabbaticals a few years ago and it has been an amazing addition in our lives. We take turns taking them and get away once or twice a year for a couple of days to pray, hear from God and plan. I always gain fresh vision for my life when I set aside this time and it’s amazing.
I know it’s not always easy to do this with little ones and I didn’t ever get away for entire days when mine were really little. But I would still encourage you to set aside a few hours and press into God, ask Him for vision and wisdom on how to plan. He will meet you in whatever season you are in and as your children grow you can find more time to invest in this.
Set Goals
Even if you aren’t a type A personality that loves to live by a to do list setting goals is extremely helpful. Set short-term and long-term goals for yourself and your family and revisit them often throughout the year to see how you are moving towards them. They will help you to keep focus especially in busy seasons.
Do it God’s Way
Seek out God’s way for the best ways to do the things you are wanting to do. He has principles in place for so many things – marriage, parenting, building a business, godly living. He really has given us the handbook for life and His ways work. Read His word and apply his principles to your life. This is a proven way to have success.
If you have any questions from me on any of these I’d love to help answer then for you. Ask in the comments or feel free to email me.

Kristin, I really love your ideas. I’ve not heard of ‘us’ taking a sabbatical – even a short one. Sounds like part of a good plan… now to see if it will fit into our lives. :) Baby steps, right?.
Kristin says
Hi Bridget, yes, if it works for you it is such an amazing thing to do and really an investment into your family. Baby steps are the way to go for sure. Blessings, Kristin
