I am struck by the words of a multitude of angels as they announced the news of the Savior’s birth to the shepherds that night so long ago.
A babe arrives and suddenly it is announced that there is peace on earth.
The times were anything but peaceful. Mary and Joseph themselves had to escape to avoid certain death for their child and I can only imagine the terror filled cries of all of the mothers who suffered the loss of their child as the soldiers slaughtered innocent babies to appease a prideful king.
And yet…they declared it… peace on earth.
The babe became a man and He was called The Prince of Peace. He embodied peace. To be near Him was to know peace. He spoke and the wind and waves became peaceful. Shame and pride and death and disease were overcome when He spoke peace to them.
In this world where babies are dying and mothers are mourning their losses too soon we can find peace. Yes, even here in the darkness of life on earth, in trying times. There is peace on earth and His name is Jesus.
So when it all seems like too much to bear, run to the One that the angels spoke of. The savior of the world- He is peace, our peace. He is near and to know Him is to know peace.
He is our peace on earth through every difficult thing we face, through every dark night, through every evil…He is our peace.
