Welcome to Day 28 in our 31 Day series on A Mom’s Guide to Getting it All Done. In case you missed yesterday’s post you may want to go and read it first. Or just jump in right here with us today.
Yesterday was hard. I just came back Sunday from an incredible domestic missions trip where I had an amazing time but I came back and was tired, a bit jet-lagged and cranky. My kids needed all kinds of stuff for school and Fall Festival costumes. Plus my husband is building his own business and there are stresses that come with that. Honestly I was just feeling off. I have had so much peace lately but it felt like my peace was hiding.
So, when I asked God what I should write about today and He whispered “tell them about how to not grow weary” I probably rolled my eyes a little. Seriously? I’m weary now. “Yes, but you know how not to be.”
And this has been the lesson of my life the past year or so. Weariness is a choice that we keep making, that I was making yesterday.
It’s not always a conscious choice but we can learn how to not chose it anymore even when things get hard, our circumstances are tough and we get tired.
You see, weariness is a reflection of what our hope is in. If it’s in ourselves, another person or our circumstances we are destined to become weary because none of those things can sustain us. They will be all wishy-washy on us, flake out, change and fail us.
To not grow weary we have to put our complete hope in God, not in what he can or does do for us, but in Who He is.
Let me tell you that weariness is like a boulder you carry around that stifles your productivity. It dwells on your needs and desires rather than on the One who knows your needs before you ask.
But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] Will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired. Isaiah 40:31 AMP
Think of yourself as a boat. You are floating on the waters of life and those waters can toss you around pretty good. You may have been on a great course but the wind and waves have knocked you around and you have lost your direction. This causes weariness. BUT if you use your anchor and anchor yourself to God, He becomes your hope. He keeps you attached to Him no matter what the wind and waves are doing. Hope is the anchor for your weary soul.
This is great and all but what does it look like in our lives? How do I wait on and hope in God each and every day? Keep your focus on Him. Keep looking into His face. Make a choice to make Him Lord and to trust Him every single moment of each day. Spend time reminding yourself of His goodness and faithfulness and choose to hope only in Him.
So, friends, don’t hope in your ability to get things done. Don’t hope in your finances or management skills or your schedule going perfectly. Put your hope in God. Love and serve Him only and you will find that your weariness fades as He gives you the strength you need each day.
