Welcome to Day 30 in our 31 Day series on A Mom’s Guide to Getting it All Done. We’re almost done!! In case you missed yesterday’s post you may want to go and read it first. Or just jump in right here with us today.
I am incredibly competitive.
I was homeschooled most of my school years but the first semester of fifth grade I went to a private Christian school. Those few months I worked hard to keep up with and surpass the smartest kid in the class with my grades. His 95 was my determination to work for a 96.
When I drive I love to beat everyone off the line at a light. If we play a game, I’m playing to win. If the girl in the workout video says she can do 10 push ups then I’m going to do my best to do 11.
You get the point. I have a problem, er strength, of competitiveness.
I’ve often seen this as a bad thing. It can cause me to compare myself if I’m not careful. It can drive me in ways I shouldn’t be driven and be a distraction from important things.
But recently I’ve discovered that it’s a good thing to be competitive…with ourselves.
God’s Word tells us to run our race in such a way to win the prize. How can you win the prize unless you, well, win.
Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 1 Corinthians 9:24
It’s not a race against each other, comparing your calling to mine. It’s our own race to win the prize for running hard and fast and with our all in what God has called us each to.
We do get to spur one another on though, in godliness. When I see you running your race well it will help me to dig in and run my race well too.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Hebrews 10:24
So, let’s get competitive in an “I’m so for you!” kind-of-way and change the world as we seek to get everything done that we are called to. I’m cheering you on and praying that God grants you the passion and persistence to run in such a way to win!
