Welcome to Day 4 in our 31 Day series on A Mom’s Guide to Getting it All Done. In case you missed yesterday’s post you may want to go and read it first. Or just jump in right here with us today.
Let’s chat about rest for a little bit today. I’m not talking about Sabbath rest, although that is important and will benefit you greatly to observe it. No, I’m talking about being a wife, mom, daughter, friend, in ministry and/or working with all the things going on in your life and having rest through it all. Sounds lovely doesn’t it?
Earlier this year I went through some very difficult health issues that had me living life mostly from my bed for months. One of the things that God spoke the most to me about during that time was rest. I tended to look at rest as the times when I got to sleep and take breaks. I would work hard and look forward to the times I would get to rest. But when you spend most of your time in bed and are resting all the time and still feeling extremely fatigued you need more than what rest and down time can give you. You need peace and trust.
That is the kind of rest I am talking about today.
Jesus did His work on the earth and then sat down at His Father’s right hand. If you think about it, He is ruling and reigning over the earth from a place of rest. He has it all in His hands. He invites us to do what He has called us to do from that same place of rest, which is deep trust in Him. It’s believing that He is so for you and that He is working all things out for your good. Even as you work hard you can cease striving because you are in Him and you have nothing to fear.
Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
Working to get everything done that we are called to, but doing it from a place of rest is life changing and freeing. The only way we can do this though is to stay constantly connected to our Savior. We need His Word and presence in our lives. We need to cling to Him and breathe Him in on a daily basis. Daily we need to give Him all that concerns us and to submit to His Lordship.
Practice resting in Him today. Ask Him to give you His perspective on living from a place of rest.
Did you complete your list yesterday? We will come back to it in a few days so be sure to work on it. You’ll be glad you did!
