My definition of a good mom looks something like this: A woman pursuing excellence in her life, seeking God first, relying on Him, loving her husband, teaching her children truth about who God is, nurturing them and their callings so that they have the opportunity to become all that God has called them to be.
Notice that my definition is not very specific and does not include a formula. The Bible doesn’t detail a lot of what a good mom looks like. Yes, there is somewhat of a visual in Proverbs 31 but it doesn’t detail the daily life of a mom. Perhaps that is because God knew our days would be a bit of a whirlwind with each day being different from the one before. Or perhaps it’s just because He just wants us to seek Him with our whole hearts to let Him be our guide. Motherhood has me constantly on my knees and I think that is how God intended it to be.
So when you define being a good mom keep your eyes on Jesus. Don’t compare yourself to any other woman because no one has defined that role for us down to a formula or specifics, including our Creator. His mothering journey for us may be as unique as our fingerprints.
God never holds us up to someone else and compares us to them. He only ever looks at us as His own and sees all that He created us to be.
How would you define a good mom today? Can you make your definition as unique as you are?
