Words really matter. Our words shape hearts and lives. They build up or they tear down. They remind us, propel us, and focus us.
Right now the word that inspires all other words for me is “brave.” I cannot share words if I am not brave enough to speak or write them. And beating in my heart right now is a challenge for myself and every other mom out there to step up and be brave.
We’ve been going through a time of really getting bullied up by words. Our own words that reverberate in our heads telling us we aren’t good enough, don’t do enough and will never amount to enough. Also, by words from the media and social media telling us exactly how we should mother and what we are doing wrong and telling us to compare our selves to other moms. We’re in a war and it’s been made up of words. And we’ve listened to them.
They’ve told us to be afraid of nearly everything. Afraid we will fail, afraid our kids will be messed up, afraid to do anything about it.
Becoming brave is about listening to the Words that the King of kings, the One who fights for us, speaks over us like Joshua 1:9:
This is my command–be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
Brave pretty much sums that verse up and it’s brave because we know Who is with us, fights for us, is in our corner and cheers like crazy saying “You can do this! I’ve got you and you’ve got this!”
So, let’s let this call to be brave replace any lies that fill our thoughts. Let’s trust that the God who encourages us to be brave will actually be faithful to make us brave. It’s the brave ones that change the world. Let’s go change the world!
Right now I am loving these (in)Courage Letterpress blocks {in the pictures above and below}. You can create any number of words with them. They will help me to remember my word each day even when I don’t feel so brave. They are incredibly innovative and a bit of lovely to add to our homes. There are so many possibilities for words that you can create with them.

Kristin,
This is such a good post and a great reminder of what true bravery is. It’s easy to assume bravery doesn’t involve fear when in fact, bravery is simply pushing past the fear and focusing on God who is brave in us. Thank you for this much needed reminder.
