Motherhood is not about who wins. It’s not the hostess with the mostess or the one who looks the most put together at the end of a day. It’s not the mom with the perfectly dressed kids and the most laundry done.
It’s not the mom with the perfectly organized pantry or the least amount of dust in her home. It’s not the mom whose child never hits the floor in a meltdown.
It’s not what you do and how you do it. It’s not how you parent and how hard you work to be loving. It’s not you fighting battles and winning wars. It’s not you teaching your children everything they need to know and shielding them from everything bad.
Motherhood is…should be… defined more as an emptying of yourself everyday, a willingness to step out of the fighting ring and behind a God Who wants to fight your battles for you and protect you. It’s knowing Who’s you are and who you are. It’s crying out for wisdom because you don’t know what to do and believing you will receive it. It’s being so filled up with fruit because you soak in God’s presence that when you are pressed it is what comes out and oozes all over everyone that comes in contact with you. It’s seeking God’s Kingdom first and His righteousness and having everything you need because… you do.
It’s having your steps ordered by God. It’s knowing you already are victorious. It’s free-falling and being out of control and knowing you trust the One who is in control. It’s knowing that Jesus and only Jesus is your prize. You lay down the accolades, the recognition, the praise and glorify God by doing motherhood in the absolutely unique way He created you to do it.
It’s not impossible. It’s the way motherhood is meant to be.
This idea quickens my heart and brings tears to my eyes. What if we got there friends? What if we could really be brave moms? We would change the world.

Motherhood yielded to the living God! Right, but it is the yielding of everything. It is the knowing God. It is the being still and knowing He is God. Nothing comes out that does not go in…going in the Secret Place is the key and knowing Him by name: Shepherd, Heavenly Father, Comforter, Counselor, Sovereign Lord KEEPER. Motherhood needs to practice the presence of God, this is so true,my dear friend. But, this truth is for everyone: the student, the childless, the motherless and so on. Thanks for reminding us we are safe in His presence no matter what happens. Here’s a helpful prayer to center the soul – Safe In Love – A Prayer: http://www.chrismalkemes.com
