Too many moms have been weary for too long. We’ve had on the sackcloth and ashes mourning what could have been and all of our faults and failures. We’ve brought our heads above water only to be drug to the bottom again kicking and screaming but ultimately giving in to the sea of worries.
There aren’t many good moms any more. No, mostly just self-proclaimed bad ones.
The crazy thing about it all is that it doesn’t have to be this way. It was never meant to be this way.
We’ve gotten so far from who we are and the tools we have to mother well that we cannot even begin to overcome weariness. There’s no hope. Or so it seems.
Can you feel the weightiness? It’s crushing my chest as I type. Moms, we have a real problem.
We long for more. To be more than just a mom, to actually do something, anything that matters. Of course we get it – in our heads – that mothering does matter, blah, blah, blah …but we don’t feel like it or we wouldn’t be weary still.
Do you want to know the truth? There’s a lot of it and it’s earth shattering. Are you ready to have your thoughts challenged?
God’s heart is broken for moms. He looks at us in our desperate state and longs for us to hear Him.
We believe we are bad moms. We hear it in our minds and confess it with our mouths. We buy it and sell it. BUT He says we are good moms.
Let’s not argue with Him.
When we believe what He says about us and let that be what invades our minds and comes out of our mouths it will become our reality.
Can I tell you something else? You have weapons. Mighty ones that are powerful for mothering. Not only that but you have armor – strong to protect you. We don’t need to be afraid or weary for a moment but we have to know what our weapons are in order to use them.
Did you know that God didn’t send you to do the incredibly hard task of mothering without mighty weapons?! But we groan and we cry and we’re so very weary for lack of using them.
Imagine something with me. Think about the very first time your baby was laid in your arms, the moment when you first knew that this was your child. The great responsibility and the title that came with it became your label – mom. Do you remember the heaviness of it? Not in a bad way but the way a strong reality hits you?
Now imagine that when you opened your arms to that child you were also given these instructions from the God who entrusted you with him or her:
“Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” {Joshua 1:9}
That challenge isn’t just for men going into battle or for the woman standing on a stage speaking to thousands. No, it’s for moms and it’s God’s heart for now for all of the weary moms. He never told you to give in to weariness. Never told you to worry or become burdened or overwhelmed. Quite the opposite.
He stands over you, sees what you do and cheers you on with great enthusiasm. “Be strong and courageous! I’ve got you and you’ve got this. Look in your hands. You have truth and wisdom in your grasp. Don’t be afraid! There is nothing to fear. Don’t get discouraged. You are mine and you cannot fail. You are not alone. I am with you wherever you go!

This is so true. We spend most of our energy assessing and analyzing why and how we are failures–“We buy it and sell it” yes! this resonates with me so deeply, and I’m drinking up your words thirstily. This is a rare and needed word. He calls us good. It’s about time we lived like it.

Yes, it is about time. I think there is a stirring in moms for more, an awakening. I’m excited about what I see beginning in our hearts!
