Today I had to laugh because, right in the middle of writing about becoming an excellent mom, I am dealing with some tough mom stuff.
I sent my son’s teacher an email this morning and as I looked at my email signature with my blog link in it I thought about deleting the link because… what would she think? She and I are working together to on some issues my son is having at school and here I am challenging myself and others to be excellent moms. I felt pretty inadequate. But then I am reminded that I am a good mom regardless of what anyone else thinks.
One of my daughters is struggling with some health issues that we cannot figure out and that has been tough. It wears on her and wears on me. And then there is my youngest who challenges me like none of the other kids have.
Lots of hard things happen in motherhood.
My husband grabbed my plate of eggs off the counter this morning at breakfast. Pretending like he was going to eat them, he said “I just thought someone should eat them while they are still hot.” To which I replied something about how moms get used to eating cold food…
Being a mom is hard work. And food sometimes goes uneaten because there is always something pressing to deal with.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Just because it’s hard doesn’t mean you are doing it wrong.
You are not a failure when it feels hard. I am learning that much of motherhood is hard and I desperately need to trust in God to get me through. I need His truth to overcome the lies. I need to rely on Him for strength and wisdom.
Take a deep breath today as you look at all that you are in the midst of in your mothering. Be encouraged that you, with God’s help, are able to rise up and meet each challenge. It’s only failure if you give up. You’ll make it. Keep seeking God and He will give you everything you need.
