I’ve been chatting a lot about being a Brave Mom lately. God has done, and is continuing to do, a major work in my life and in my mothering. It’s been all about this challenge to become brave. So much so that I feel called to encourage other moms to become brave in their own mothering. But what exactly is a brave mom and how do I become one?
This is a question that I am dying to answer, for you, for me and many other moms who are weary and just can’t take it anymore. I’m going to spend the next few weeks, and several blog posts, to answer this and lay out some steps toward becoming the brave mom you are called to be.
Let’s dream for a moment about what it would look like to be a brave mom. Let’s picture ourselves as brave so that we have something to look forward to as we work through the steps in the coming weeks.
Imagine that you are confident in who you are and your ability to mother well. Imagine that you are not afraid of how your child will turn out. Imagine that the hard days of motherhood wear you to the bone but don’t steal your joy or make you lose heart. Imagine that you know Who your God is and how He fights for you and you know who He says that you are and you believe it. Imagine that you know what your weapons are to fight with and you use them with expertise.
This is not a dream. It can be reality and I believe that it is God’s heart. In fact Joshua 1:9 tells us exactly what God’s heart is for us:
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be dismayed for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Let’s learn how to be brave!

First, I adore your sparkly signature at the end of your post. Adore. Anyway – being a brave mom? To me it means leaning into Jesus and trusting He knows best when the anxiety feels overwhelming. Being a brave mom means focusing on Truth and not what my worried emotions are telling me “might” happen. Being a brave mom means showing up, day after day, night after night, asking for forgiveness and saying I love you and choosing to be the mama God called me to be – whether I feel like it or not in that moment.

Thanks Crystal! I’m all about gold glitter right now. That will probably change in a month or two as I’m also fickle. ;)
Love your brave mom definition! I think you are such a brave mom to that little girl. Such an inspiration! Love, Kristin

Just realized I didn’t follow the rules of commenting :)
Here goes:
Brave for me….today at least, is letting go. Recognizing that the plans that I hold so tightly to do not always line up with the glorious plans that He has ALREADY planned. For me, and my children. I long to be a brave mama, so I will cling to my Father God and beg Him to make me, my husband and our children like Him.
PS Can’t wait to see you @ my 1st ALLUME!
